Good evening.
In my first written TV blog in a while, I’d like to tell you about the first episode of the tenth season/revival of ‘Scrubs.’
Over 15 years since the end of the original series, JD, Elliot, and Turk, played by Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke, and Donald Faison, are back at Sacred Heart Hospital with some new jobs and new interns.
It was a combination of throwbacks to the original show’s humor, like “Eagle,” “Chocolate Bear” and “Vanilla Bear,” and Elliot’s “Frick” and anxious nature. Even if that was recycled, it really did make me laugh.
In the meantime, JD and Elliot have divorced (spoiler alert), and Turk’s burned out in the surgery department. I guess that’s why the show was revived like so many other programs, because their actors feel their characters are not done yet and still want to feel useful in the modern times. For example, JD reminded an intern to overcome her fear of inserting needles in patients like he did on “My First Day.” And Dr. Cox, played by John C. McGinley, despite his hard shell, still believes in JD’s caring outlook and thinks the interns could use his help. The cast we know and love has aged, but they’ve still got good hearts to carry them through.
In the end, I give the episode “My Return” a 7.5/10. Good throwback humor, but kind of needs some new humor. I’m curious to see how well the band goes back together in the revival of ‘Scrubs.’ On ABC Wednesdays at 8pm, and streaming on Hulu/Disney+ the next day.
