'Bev to the Future': Not a Proper Send-Off

Image
*This* is how The Goldbergs should've ended. Photo courtesy of Getty Images.   I appreciate the heartwarming display at the end of The Goldbergs' series finale, but I didn't like most of the situation or comedy. Adam not exactly being a good knock-off of red-blooded Marty McFly, Barry not truly becoming more than a knucklehead, and the fact that it didn't flash-forward to them all in the 90s and what became of them, along with not sticking true to original showrunner Adam F. Goldberg's vision, are all reasons that 'Bev to the Future' wasn't a proper send-off. I said that the episode should've been an hour-long, and in addition to that, it should've shown all the Goldbergs surrounded by all their loving friends, cool careers, or Adam trying to jump a ramp with the DeLorean. It may be too late for that, and whether or not there's a sequel series based on the family, I guess remains to be seen. Despite not enjoying too much of them after the los...

The Goldbergs "Two-Timing Goldbergs" is Comic Romance and Bromance

Image
What turned out to be a two-timing Barry Goldberg (Troy Gentile) was a second chance at friendship with Bill Lewis (David Koechner). Photos courtesy of TV Insider and ABC. The February 22 episode of The Goldbergs is a combination of romance and bromance, with Adam trying to get "casual" with Carmen and Barry and Bill trying to heal over Murray.  While it's clear that Beverly is the one who needs the most changing, which now seems impossible after 10 years, there's still some laughter to be shared during these tough adult moments. For example, Adam does his usual cheesy big romantic gesture for the recently single Carmen, but that's not entirely a bad thing, given that he won't stop trying to make her happy. I just hope he makes himself happy, too. On the other hand, what seemed like Barry's two-timing with ex-fiancee Lainey Lewis (Bill's daughter, played by AJ Michalka) over current gf Joanne Schwartz (Beth Triffon) actually was cooler when I found o...

'The Goldbergs' Needs Less Rehashing, More Lighthearted Humor

Image
Photo courtesy of ABC and Facebook. After watching The Goldbergs for 5 years, I'm kind of mixed about it today. What started off as Adam F. Goldberg having fun videotaping his childhood in the 80s and showing his crazy family isn't the same fun now in season 10. For example, Beverly's still an overbearing "smother", Barry is still a loudmouth with very one-sided friendships with the JTP, and Adam still has crazy relationship drama with his love life. I know the kid had to grow up at some point, with or without some relatives in his life, but if the show is meant to go any longer, it better show some more lighthearted stuff, something fresh, something that shows the Goldberg family at their truly best . But the show still has some laughs left, emphasis on some .   Despite recycling old embarrassing stuff, the Goldbergs as individuals and together still manages to come together. Just put on some more upbeat family times and music, and I'm sure it'll be fine ...

"Ugly Betty" Shows That Brains And Heart Are Better Than Beauty

Image
I finished watching it on August 31, 2020, and I saw that America Ferrera can do the impossible as Betty Suarez in ABC’s “Ugly Betty”. It’s not just Betty’s determination to love in the show, it’s also the drama and development with the other main characters, and the pride shown for people in the LGBTQ+ community. Overall, for a show called “Ugly Betty”, it’s actually fabulous and full of surprises. Betty Suarez (played by America Ferrera) on her first day at MODE magazine. Photo courtesy of ABC. Adapted from the Colombian telenovela “Yo soy, Betty la fea” written by Fernando Gaitán, “Ugly Betty” originally started off with a Mexican-American college graduate from Queens named Betty Suarez (played by Ferrera) who lands a job as Assistant to the Editor-in-Chief of MODE magazine, Daniel Meade (played by Eric Mabius), despite her unattractive appearance in comparison to the snobbish-looking and -acting employees of the magazine. Regardless, Betty proves herself to be a determined assistan...
