‘As We See It’: Authentic Beacon for Adults Diagnosed with ASD

Created by Jason Katims of Friday Night Lights and based on On the Spectrum created by Dana Idsis and Yuval Shafferman , it was an authentic tale of three twentysomethings diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder , played by actors actually diagnosed on the spectrum, as they try to find love, work, and comfort in their lives. I finished it off this weekend. It feels good to know that there are professionals on the spectrum just as I am. Though I may not share the characters’ over-reacting or temper tantrums, I could identify with them sometimes because I, too, want people to love me and my quirks. It's nice to know that there's a place in entertainment for people like me and them. I hope that on and off the screen, there are people diagnosed with ASD who feel hopeful about their lives. 'Cobra Kai' Season VI Needs Redemption Stories

Miyagi-Fang senseis and students. Courtesy of Netflix. Hello, people. Almost two weeks ago, I went back to  Cobra Kai's first, third, and fifth seasons. I felt more nostalgic since I watched the first part of their sixth season. Now, I know there's more for the story and acting to show come November, then some time in 2025, but I was polarized with season 6, part 1. Spoiler alert: Anthony LaRusso and Kenny Payne started off as allies until a misunderstanding caused by Devon Lee began further tearing them apart, Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso were still rocky on how to balance their philosophies in and out of the dojo, John Kreese still refused to completely humble himself and realize there's more to life than Cobra Kai and his vendettas, and if that's not the worst, Tory Nichols went back to Cobra Kai after more misunderstandings, including how to cope with her mother's passing. Maybe the idea of dividing the 15 episodes into three parts was to build suspense

'Cobra Kai' VI Part 1: Good Choreography, Leaves Me Hungry for Part 2

Now that LaRusso and Lawrence have Silver in the slammer and Kreese has escaped, there's a lot to be fulfilled in Cobra Kai's sixth and final season. I am glad that the conflicts between Sam and Tory, Robby and Miguel, and Anthony and Kenny have become water under the bridge. At least, that's what I thought for most of them until I finished bingeing Part 1 of Season 6. LaRusso and Lawrence still have their own baggage to work out because, despite their ambition to protect their families and legacies, they still could not be more different when it came down to handling life in and out of their gis. Kreese still had his own issues to get over whether he wanted

The Hunger for Cobra Kai VI is Afoot

When I saw the latest trailer for Cobra Kai season 6, I expected maybe some partying and scenes of a happy ending, not more drama.  From the looks of it, the Sekai Taikai struggles may be putting Daniel and Johnny back to square one.   And though Sam and Tory have made amends, I guess she's still not fully accepted into Miyagi-do, at least by someone other than Sam.                                                   Or Miguel and Robby. Maybe they're debating who deserves to be Johnny's golden boy in and out of karate. At least at some point, the rivalry stops between Sam and Tory. Perhaps they're finally having a girls' night out before the Sekai Taikai. All photos courtesy of Netflix and Sony Pictures Television. Now, I was hoping that now that Daniel rehashed the ending of Karate Kid Part III in the season 5 finale of Cobra Kai but better, maybe some peace could finally come for him, Johnny, their students and their families. But I realize that whether it's

On the morning of February 28, 2024, I finally wrapped up streaming Atypical   on Netflix, created by Robia Rashid ( How I Met Your Mother , The Goldbergs ). It's about a young male adult diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder named Sam Gardner , played by Keir Gilchrist , trying to navigate his social and professional lives. In addition, the show chronicles some battles from his parents Elsa and Doug, played by Jennifer Jason Leigh and Michael Rapaport , sister Casey, played by Brigette Lundy-Paine , best friend, coworker, and eventual roommate Zahid, played by Nik Dodani , and girlfriend Paige, played by Jenna Boyd . As I was figuring out how to paint a good picture of autism for one of my own media writin

'Bev to the Future': Not a Proper Send-Off

Image
*This* is how The Goldbergs should've ended. Photo courtesy of Getty Images.   I appreciate the heartwarming display at the end of The Goldbergs' series finale, but I didn't like most of the situation or comedy. Adam not exactly being a good knock-off of red-blooded Marty McFly, Barry not truly becoming more than a knucklehead, and the fact that it didn't flash-forward to them all in the 90s and what became of them, along with not sticking true to original showrunner Adam F. Goldberg's vision, are all reasons that 'Bev to the Future' wasn't a proper send-off. I said that the episode should've been an hour-long, and in addition to that, it should've shown all the Goldbergs surrounded by all their loving friends, cool careers, or Adam trying to jump a ramp with the DeLorean. It may be too late for that, and whether or not there's a sequel series based on the family, I guess remains to be seen. Despite not enjoying too much of them after the los
