The Goldbergs "Two-Timing Goldbergs" is Comic Romance and Bromance

What turned out to be a two-timing Barry Goldberg (Troy Gentile) was a second chance at friendship with Bill Lewis (David Koechner). Photos courtesy of TV Insider and ABC.

The February 22 episode of The Goldbergs is a combination of romance and bromance, with Adam trying to get "casual" with Carmen and Barry and Bill trying to heal over Murray.

While it's clear that Beverly is the one who needs the most changing, which now seems impossible after 10 years, there's still some laughter to be shared during these tough adult moments. For example, Adam does his usual cheesy big romantic gesture for the recently single Carmen, but that's not entirely a bad thing, given that he won't stop trying to make her happy. I just hope he makes himself happy, too. On the other hand, what seemed like Barry's two-timing with ex-fiancee Lainey Lewis (Bill's daughter, played by AJ Michalka) over current gf Joanne Schwartz (Beth Triffon) actually was cooler when I found out he was just bonding with Lainey's dad after Murray's passing.

I think the episode should've addressed more of Barry talking about his feelings about missing his dad, which is advice I need to give myself, and more establishing of what Lainey's been up to, and Barry's determination to do right by Joanne. But it was still fun to see the Goldberg men get the bonds they wanted with their friends and still live happily ever after. But Beverly is still in the one-sided friendships where she doesn't listen to her friends and, while well-intended, continues to meddle in her now-adult children's lives. If this show is meant to go on for longer, try showing more of Beverly's good side from the perspective of former showrunner Adam F. Goldberg himself. I hope young Adam gets back to his fun filmmaking roots or figures out his newly-adult life, or both. And I hope Erica doesn't really dream of cheating on Geoff.
